Labor Day – Podcast September 3, 2018

The Decades Long Fight For Fairness. Democratic Perspective co-hosts Steve Williamson and Mike Cosentino begin the show with a salute to workers, noting that the 8-hour day, 40-hour work week, safe working conditions and an end to child labor weren’t given to working people. They were won at places like Haymarket Square and Blair Mountain. It took real fights – deadly battles – for many of these rights to be won. As a result of their fights, organized labor helped improve working conditions, wages and benefits for everyone, whether you were in a union or not. Everybody benefits, including those who don’t like unions. Following that discussion, the co-hosts turn to the upcoming elections in Arizona and the challenges faced by Democrats.
